Yeah, baby! Just found out I made it into the third round of the First Line Contest. The field will be narrowed down by five each week from the current 55 entries. Which means . . . in ten weeks, the final five will send off their submissions to Hilary Sares of Kensington. Pretty cool contest, if you as me. And it was free! There aren't many freebies out there, so big thanks to Karin Tabke. Check out her website if you get a chance. I'm #11 on the Jan. 29th blog. My next line is posted in the comment section.
I'm working on Chapter One of Book II in my sff series. I've managed to put a few lines down to alleviate the stark whiteness of the blank page. Yak. It'll go quicker once I have the synopsis fleshed out.

Catching up.
Whoo, hooo!! I've printed out my submissions for The Residuals and the envelopes are labeled and stamped. I can't believe I'm done. I had a bad feeling it was turning into the book that would never end.
Now, I'm anxious to push it out the door and start on something new. :) But before I can do that, I need to write the partial for book 2 in the series and plot out a detailed synopsis, just in case book 1 sells quickly and they want to know what's next in the series (Would that I should be so lucky!) Cross your fingers for me. The biggest part of luck is being ready when opportunity strikes.
I can't wait to check into the First Line contest sponsored by Karin Tabke's Blog to find out if I made the second round. It's kind of addictive.
Until then,

First Lines . . .
Whoa, it's been three weeks. Where does the time go? I have lots to tell, that's for certain.
I've been on a kick to simplify my life, cut out the things that won't/don't help me utilize my writing time effectively. Unfortunately, the two teenagers, the two elementarians (yes, I just made that up. I'm a writer, remember?) and the hubby had other plans.
The hubby and I celebrated our 19th Wedding Anniversary on the 9th. My oldest kid had her first stand-up comedy routine at her h.s. variety night (it was great! That kid is funny:) and my sixteen-yr-old son had his first date, of which I was required to chaperone. Yeah, life's busy and great.
I'm still working on the revisions my cp gave me on The Residuals. Not too much, just refining some elements that needed a little more fleshing out. And I'm ready to send out partials. Wheeeee!
Oh, and the fun part is I entered a First Line contest and I made the first round :) Check it out. I'm #62. The winner receives a read/request from Hilary Sares of Kensington. Cool.
That's all for now. I'm off to plan the 11-yr-old son's Lazer Quest b-day party.

Taking Down Christmas
I'm taking down all the Christmas stuff today.
In the process, I'm working out my writing goals for the year. Which means, contemplating if I should email the epublisher who has my short contempory and do a status check. As of Saturday, it'll have been there four months on the Senior Editor's desk.
I contacted them a couple of months ago and found out it had been recommended to the Senior and due to the fact they were expanding (always a good sign, right?) they were behind. But how long do I wait? It's a full. It's ready to be sent to any number of houses. (And I'd really like to be pubbed before the next national conference in July.)
The good news is I think my urban fantasy/spec. fiction may finally be ready to send out. Guess it's time to get a spread sheet together so I can track it.

Happy New Year 2007
Another year without a publishing contract. It's depressing.
Thank God my personal life is on an even keel and the family are all healthy, happy and just as messy and brilliant as last year. There is a significant change, though. I have a senior this year!! (I know, I'm still trying to decide if I went through a time warp somewhere in the early nineties.)
I've been writing (or making the effort, can't be too certain in those early years with four kids and sleep deprivation so high on the agenda) since before my oldest child could tie her own shoes which just goes to prove, there are no short cuts in publishing. I've completed another novel this month, urban fantasy/sci-fi. That makes 6 complete (saleable) fiction novels. (I don't count the two regency romps I wrote when I first started. Can you say M-E-L-O-D-R-A-M-A-T-I-C?)
I've had friends who pubbed early in novel-length fiction (after two or three years of dedicated writing/learning the craft) but who were tripped up over the second sale. I'm not envious of anyone's early success. If I'd pubbed earlier, I wouldn't have been ready for all the business/marketing, etc., that goes along with it.
My youngest will be nine in Feb. It makes a huge difference to have elementary age children vs. toddlers. The guilt-meter doesn't go quite so high at all the time away from the kiddies, hubby, house, parents, siblings, birthdays, (you get the picture.)
So, here's to 2007.
May my rambling muse find herself with a bevy of offers. And hopefully, I'll end up with an agent before Spring. ;)
