I'm not sure, but I think that's the official term. I'm still slogging through revisions of book I, cutting out plot threads to simplify the overall theme and clarifying anything "muddy".
All this means, I'm ready to pull my hair out!
Anytime I change one thing, I have to go back to the beginning and make certain I've pulled out every reference. It's monotonous. However, I'm looking and finding new ways to add layering, make the metaphors more unique and drive the motivations deeper. I guess it was a good thing. (At least that's what I'm telling myself!)
Back to work.

Glad you're slogging through. That word works for me.
The tightening phase is just painful. There's no other way to describe it and no way to avoid it. I equate tightening to labor. You can't get that baby without the pain, but you'd certainly like to shorten the process.
Happy slogging!
I just came through on the other end and still don't know if it's "better or worse"--such sujective terms anyway. All we can ever hope for is to do the best we are capable of at that moment and move on.
It'll be fabulous!
Thanks for the "push". I'm ready to birth this baby, Miss Scarlett!
One day at a time, Sherry, one day at a time. That's the only way I can get through it. And when I finish at the end of each and every day, I celebrate.
The problem with editing for me is that I get soooo sick of a manuscript that I can barely bring myself to read it again, much less with the level of care that real editing requires.
