My cp, LA Mitchell, recently asked in her blog about writing rituals and the Feng Shui. So, here's my ritual and what I keep on my desk, whether it's the stationary one in my study or the dining room. Obviously, a couple of things have to change when I'm using my van as an office or the coffee shop.
Read on . . .
I have a candle-- it forces me to write until the flame goes out! (Or I have to pick up the kids from school or rehearsal. I know, I'm a self-slave driver. But I'd really rather be taking a nap. Seriously. The flame keeps me going. Very symbolic of my publishing hopes, etc.) I position this in my northwest.
I don't wear jewelry, hair accessories or shoes, if I can help it. Nothing binding the energy coming off my creativity.
I also have a bottle of hand lotion. My hands get really dry. I have a bad habit of looking at all the crags in my skin! (Yuck. I resemble the cracked earth of the Mohave desert. So, Bath & Body Works reaps the benefit of my strange paranoia.) Positioned in my northeast.
I use a low wattage light bulb. The glare hurts my eyes. The softer light keeps me from squinting :) (not attractive.) Again, northwest quadrant of my writing area.
A spiral to take notes, ask myself questions for later, etc., positioned on my right. Along with a coffee warmer during the morning and a water bottle in the afternoon, which I refill a couple of times. (Okay, lots of coffee :)
I also keep my calender close at hand. (Usually on a tv tray on my right.) It's a Weekly/Monthly planner wire bound 8 1/2 x 11 double sided. I keep track of my pages I work on. Business queries. Expenses. etc. for the entire year. **Believe it or not, it's a very positive thing to be able to look back and track my progress.
Mechanical pencils with the soft grip (at least four in various colors.) Uniball pens in black, blue and red. The latest edition of the RWR. Set of colored highlighters. And a tube of Burt's Bees lip balm. (I LOVE BURT'S BEES!)
Most important of all-- FLASH STICK/DRIVE!!!! I can't recommend enough how important it is to backup your work in more than one place. Just trust me. Go buy one.
Thats it. A double-post day :)

I'm so happy you're Feng Shui-ing it! May it produce publishing contracts and much fame for you!
I love Burts Bees as well. And it certainly deserves the all caps recognition. I like the whole Feng Sui-ing process, but does that mean I have to clean my desk off first? 'Cause, darling if you can know exactly where everything is on your desk, it is abundantly cleaner than mine. :-D
